MASS TIMBER BUSINESS SERVICES

Whirlwind consultants specializes in Mass Timber business practices. Through Nicholas's 12 years of experience in Mass Timber construction he has played a key role in developing many standard industry products, specially focused on Cross Laminated Timber and Glulam Laminated Timber. For Mass Timber projects to be successfully deployed a few key ingredients must be in place:

1) You need a adequate fibre source
2) You need a set of products that leverage value from that specific fibre source
3) You need an optimized product to match your market focus
4) You need a business plan to deliver these products to market efficiently.

In the 4th step, these options become much more complex when you work in a non-commodity based market and need to tie into construction project schedules, structural engineering, code approvals, design optimizations, and most critically synchronized technology delivery systems for project information.

Whirlwind Consultants has worked through all of these issues with the proven ability to outline, develop, and deploy a business system which leverages state of the art practices to minimize risk and deliver successful outcomes. Services focus on business planning, onboarding, Industry 4.0 production systems, risk mitigation, project management, product development and sensitivity analysis for ROI, and IRR optimization.

PROCESS

We offer a wide array of consulting services the standard process for multi-criteria optimization is quite simple. As a designer you specify basic building parameters for your project followed by building design criteria you must adhere to or would like to optimize for.  From here you can specify any special design considerations you might have for better results.  Then through analytical review of assembly possibilities via existing and updated data bases a series of recommendations will be made to in terms of how to optimize your building for the specific conditions laid out.  This process can be applied to specific subsections of the structure such as the floor assembly, or it can be used to specify an outline for all construction systems in the building.  Currently the range of architectural and engineering areas for optimization consideration include: vertical load bearing systems, bracing systems, service cores, partition walls, exterior walls, roofs, and floor systems.

Steps

  1. Outline building parameters (# of stories, use, locations, etc.)
  2. Outline design criteria based on intensity of importance for design parameters (costs, construction time, thermal values, etc.)
  3. Inform on any special considerations or requirements.
  4. Receive recommendations and reports on building component systems meeting design criteria.

CONSULTING ARRANGEMENTS

We can easily be hired on as a consultant to your projects and offer flexible partnership arrangements. Our services will shorten preliminary design time, while supplying reliable results to make critical decisions.  Projects can be taken on in a variety of service packages, including; hourly consulting rates, project percentage sums, or retainer installments.
